Our founders grew up with very limited educational resources. This has made them passionate about helping to bridge the educational gap between rural and urban areas through volunteerism and donations. They created CulworkGives in order to make that possible.
Recently, I had the opportunity to meet some of the most clever and eager to learn students that I have ever met during my 7 years of teaching experience. Their energy and excitement was contagious. I couldn't help but to smile until my cheek began to ache because every where I turned I would see adorable students with wide eyes and bright smiles on their faces peeking around corners trying to get a glimpse of me.
I have grown used to this kind of attention over the years of living abroad and being the only "white" person many people have ever seen. However, these students were different. They were brave and immensely curious. When I would ask them a question, they would giggle and try their best to respond, even if they hadn't yet started to learn English. This surprised me. Typically the students I encounter, even those who have had expose to foreigners before, run away and hide when I try to talk to them. Not these students. I presented them with an opportunity to learn that they weren't going to run away from and within minutes of meeting them I knew thats exactly what they wanted to do.
The difference between these students and the students I typically teach is that they have very limited resources due to a lack funding. Plus, they live in a village where it is common to drop out of school after middle school due to their environment. I became so sad after hearing this, because these students deserve to learn. They deserve to have the same opportunities as other students their age that are more wealthy. I know that these students have the passion and drive to learn, they just need the necessary tools.
I would love to have the opportunity to help foster their growth and education. However, in order to do this I need help. I would like to donate new chalk boards, art supplies, books, and craft supplies to these incredible students. If you would like to help me with this project, or make a donation, please contact us.
